Forecast for Monday, July 16, 2018

What a weekend! Highs both days only in the 80s with refreshing morning rain. The heat is returning by the end of the week, but we still have a few more days of hit and miss storms. Hopefully they’ll hit near you!

Still plenty of moisture in place today with scattered afternoon and evening storms possible and a high in the mid 90s.

Scattered showers and storms tonight with a low in the upper 70s.

Scattered storms tomorrow with a high in the upper 90s.

Drier air working it’s way our way as we enter the second half of the week and high pressure building in by this weekend as well. Storm chances waning with only isolated storms raining. Highs getting higher as the air gets drier. Still a 20% chance for storms Wednesday mid 90s. 20% Thursday upper 90s. 20% Friday 101ish. 20% Saturday 102. 10% Sunday 104. Viva Monsoon 2018!

Forecast for Saturday, July 14, 2018

A day today similar to yesterday. Round and round the thunderstorms go. Exactly where they’ll hit, nobody knows. Hopefully near you! Upper 90s again today with some clearing skies this morning. Storms will have no problem forming over the mountains, but with a weak steering flow they’ll have a tough time drifting over valley locations. However, all is not lost. Just like yesterday we should see some storms pop up just about anywhere. Where they do there will be a potential for heavy rainfall.

Storm chances continue tonight mainly before midnight. Again with locally heavy rain and a low in the mid 70s.

Scattered storms tomorrow low 90s. 30% chance Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mid 90s. High pressure forming closer to us late in the week with less storms but still a chance. Warmer too. 10% chance Thursday near 100ish. 20% Friday 102. Viva Monsoon 2018!

Forecast for Friday, July 13, 2018

Heavy rain for some yesterday! Hopefully near you. The south side and downtown got drenched. Also another brief heavy shower here in southern Oro Valley around 6:30 last night. Chance for storms go down a bit today, but some of the storms that form will have locally heavy rainfall once again. Plenty of sunshine later this morning into the afternoon hours to help the cause. Storms will easily form on the mountains late morning or early afternoon. Weak steering winds will likely keep them there, but again, isolated storms are possible just about anywhere in the area this afternoon/evening. Today’s high in the upper 90s.

Isolated storms ending tonight with a low in the upper 70s.

Storm chances ramp back up tomorrow with a 30% chance tomorrow and a 50% chance by evening and a high in the mid 90s.

Scattered storms Sunday low 90s. 30% Monday mid 90s. 20% Tuesday and Wednesday upper 90s. 10% Thursday near 100ish. Viva Monsoon 2018!

Forecast for Wednesday, July 11, 2018

Here we go again! Very active day yesterday in Marana and Oro Valley with some areas getting 2 to 2 1/2 inches of rain! Who knew that we would put the rain in train with the storm causing a train derailment in Marana. Yikes! A few water rescues too, but the good news is no one got hurt. Please continue to enjoy Monsoon 2018 responsibly as we are looking at another round of storms, some with heavy rain today. Already breaks in the clouds this morning and if we see sunshine that will help storms to get going starting this afternoon. Additionally we have a disturbance in the force riding northward into the area from Mexico this afternoon to help the cause. Very rich moisture in place, so we will likely see heavy rain again today in some areas and maybe we’ll send another haboob to Phoenix. Today’s high in the low 90s should occur in the early afternoon before the rains get going.

Scattered showers this evening ending before midnight with a low in the low 70s.

Rain mainly on the wane Thursday and Friday but still a few storms about with highs in the upper 90s.

Storm chances ramp back up this weekend with a low headed our way. 40% chance Saturday upper 90s. 30% Sunday low 90s. 30% Monday mid 90s. 30% Tuesday upper 90s. Viva Monsoon 2018!

Forecast for Tuesday, July 10, 2018

Interesting day yesterday. Most not getting the advertised rain with some notable exceptions. An early afternoon storm dumped some nice rain on the Tortolita Mountains which moved to the east and got parts of Marana. Then three separate showers with some thunder formed over southern Oro Valley. Downtown Tucson had a quick downpour later in the afternoon. Then there was the airport. 1.01″ inches of rain fell! A new record for the date. Most of it came down in about a half hour!

If you missed out on yesterday’s showers I give you hope. Light rain (half the calories of our regular rain) moving through the Metro this morning should end in an hour or two. Then mostly cloudy skies most of today. If we get some clearing that will certainly help the cause for afternoon and evening storm chances. Still. The inverted trough we’ve been talking about is now to our west, but still close enough to add some instability to the atmosphere. The National Weather Service has our afternoon storm chances at 50%. Lots of moisture in place so some of the storms may produce locally heavy rainfall. Hopefully near you! Today’s high only in the low 90s.

Scattered showers and storms possible tonight, perhaps a few overnight, with a low in the mid 70s.

40% chance for storms tomorrow afternoon/evening with a high in the upper 90s. 30% chance for storms Thursday upper 90s. 20% chance Friday upper 90s. 40% chance Saturday mid 90s. 30% Sunday mid 90s. 30% Monday upper 90s. Viva Monsoon 2018!

Forecast for Sunday, July 8, 2018

Viva Monsoon 2018! We managed 107 yesterday afternoon before a few storms moved in from the NE as advertised. Only a trace officially at the airport, but some of you had a nice shower or two. We do it again today except we have more moisture in place which should help things get started a little earlier. Also, it won’t be as hot. Today’s high near 103 which should be the last day over a hundred for awhile. As storms move in this afternoon/evening from the NE we could see areas of blowing dust, so the National Weather Service has issued a BLOWING DUST ADVISORY from 2:00 this afternoon until 8:00 tonight. Be advised, there may be blowing dust especially in the blowing dust prone areas such as near Picacho Peak and Casa Grande along I-10.

Storm chances increase tonight as we enter an active Monsoon 2018 pattern for the first half of this week! High pressure shifting a little bit north which will open the door for an inverted trough to move through Monday into Wednesday. The extra lift provided by the trough means we won’t have to depend on afternoon heating to get storms going (although that won’t hurt). And that means we could get storms morning, afternoon and night through Wednesday! 50% chance for storms tonight upper 70s. 50% chance for storms tomorrow and tomorrow night upper 90s. 40% chance for storms Tuesday, Tuesday night, Wednesday and Wednesday night mid 90s.

The trough leaves us, but the moisture stays Thursday into the weekend. 20% chance for storms Thursday mid 90s. 20% chance for storms Friday mid 90s. 10% chance for storms Saturday upper 90s. Did I mention? Viva Monsoon 2018!

Forecast for Saturday, July 7, 2018

Here we go! Monsoon 2018 is fixin’ to show up for reals starting as early as tonight. Moisture back on the increase with disturbances in the force along with an inverted trough is gonna light up our skies. Mostly sunny today with a high near 105. Storms forming to our NE should work their way our way by tonight for a 30% chance for scattered storms and a low in the low 80s.

A 20% chance for storms on Sunday with a high near 102. Then. Here comes an inverted trough. An area of low pressure moving from east to west along the bottom of high pressure centered to our NNE will add extra lift to the atmosphere and help storms to get going Sunday night and Monday. Monday’s high near 99.

Then it’s general Monsoon activity the rest of the week with random disturbances to help out. Yay! 40% chance for storms Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mid 90s. 40% chance for storms Friday upper 90s. Viva Monsoon 2018!

Forecast for Friday, July 6, 2018

Well that was fun! Monsoon 2018 surprised us by over performing on the predicted 10% chance of storms. Some wind damage and blowing dust as a result and much needed rain for some. All that after tying the record high of 111!

It’s Friiidaaay!!! The east wind has been whipping overnight and will continue into this afternoon with gusts around 40 mph expected. If it’s not tied down it’s likely in Yuma by now. WIND ADVISORY in effect until 3:00 this afternoon, so be advised, it’s going to be windy. So far the morning low has been 88. Yuck! Looking for a high this afternoon near 105. The record of 109 should be safe. Should.

Mostly clear tonight and breezy, but not as windy as last night and today, with a low in the low 80s.

Storm chances return this weekend and next week! We’ll keep the easterly flow. Moisture is already here and will increase a bit. Disturbances in the force will move through from time to time enhancing thunderstorm chances. The exact timing of those is hard to pinpoint, but it’s gonna be a thing!

10% chance for storms Saturday 105. 20% chance for storms Saturday night near 80ish. 20% chance for storms Sunday 102. 40% chance for storms Sunday night upper 70s. 40% chance for storms Monday 99. 40% chance for storms Tuesday and Wednesday mid 90s. 20% chance for storms Thursday mid 90s. Viva Monsoon 2018!

Forecast for Thursday, July 5, 2018

So you’re saying there’s a chance! Before we dive in to a busy forecast let’s start with yesterday. 103 for the third day in a row with a bit of an afternoon breeze. Those temperatures and wind speeds are on the way up along with storm chances. EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING today from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. so be warned, the heat will be excessive. Make sure you stay hydrated lest you burst into flames! Today’s expected of high of 108 is getting too close for comfort to the record of 111. Also. A slight chance for an isolated storm or two this afternoon and evening. It’s still too dry at the surface so IF we see a storm it’s likely to create some strong gusty winds and maybe mostly dry lightning.

Any storms that form will die with the setting sun and the east winds will start to increase overnight keeping our morning low not so low in the low 80s. East winds could gust to 40 mph and so we have a WIND ADVISORY from 3:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.. Be advised, it’s gonna be windy.

Mostly sunny and windy tomorrow like I just mentioned with a high near 104ish.

Moisture on the increase this weekend into next week. Storm chances on the rise! Singing in the rain and dancing in the streets! 10% chance for storms Saturday 105. 30% chance for storms Saturday night! 20% chance for storms Sunday 102 and 40% Sunday night. 40% chance for storms Monday 100. 40% chance for storms Tuesday upper 90s. 40% chance for storms Wednesday mid 90s.

Forecast for Tuesday, July 3, 2018

OK Monsoon 2018. We are ready for you to do your thing. Looks like that will be happening this weekend into next week. Until then, kinda hot, but morning coffee on the deck temperatures look downright pleasant the next couple of days. High pressure should establish itself in the Kansas area by Friday, giving us a strong easterly flow. Not only will that help import moisture, but an inverted trough should be riding the bottom of the high into SE Arizona. The combination looks like it will bring us a good chance for storms, especially Sunday night and Monday. Stay tuned!

Sunny today 104. Mostly clear tonight low 70s. Mostly sunny tomorrow 103ish. Hot Thursday 107. Breezy Friday 105. 20% chance for storms Friday night upper 70s. Slight chance for storms Saturday 103. 20% chance for storms Sunday 101. 30% chance for storms Sunday night upper 70s. 30% chance for storms Monday 100.
