Forecast for Sunday, July 29, 2018

Judging from the Facebook comments, yesterday was one of those frustrating Monsoon days for some of you. Great chance for storms, but none near you. I hate to say it. I even feel a little bit guilty. I had three showers/storms yesterday afternoon/evening here in southern Oro Valley! My plants on the deck are happy happy happy. It was nice. Don’t get discouraged. Scattered showers and storms remain in the forecast through the entire week. Hopefully some near you!

Becoming mostly sunny today with afternoon heating leading to instability especially where there weren’t storms yesterday. That would be Tucson and south. Today’s high near the average of 98.

30% chance for storms tonight and a low just a couple degrees above the average of 75.

20% chance for storms Monday/30% Monday night. 100/78. 30% Tuesday 100ish. 20%/30% Wednesday and Thursday 102. 20% Friday 99. 10% Saturday 100.

Forecast for Friday, July 27, 2018

It’s Friiidaaay!!!

Nice to be back around 100ish after our mini heat wave. 103 yesterday was 7 degrees “cooler” than the day before. It really does make a difference. Similar high temperature today. Perhaps a degree or two lower. The weather headline? The return of storm chances today, through the weekend, and into next week! Happy Dayz are here again! Not as cool as the Fonz, but closer to our average of 98 for this time of year. Take time out of your busy day to dance in the rain (you know, if you get some), but at the same time don’t get hit by lightning. OK. Maybe don’t dance in the rain. Use your best judgement. We’re all adults here. Either way… Viva Monsoon 2018!

Partly sunny today with a 20% chance for storms this afternoon and a high near 102.

Mostly cloudy tonight with a 40% chance for storms! Hopefully near you. Low in the upper 70s.

30% chance for storms tomorrow and a 40% chance tomorrow night! High near 100ish. 20% Sunday/30% Sunday night 99. 20%/40% Monday 100. 20%/40% Tuesday 101. 10%/20% Wednesday 102. 10% Thursday 101.

Forecast for Thursday, July 26, 2018

It rained last night! Well. Some of you got rain. The airport picked up .08″ to add to our Monsoon 2018 total. Of course all that was after a record high of 110. Print the t-shirt, “I Survived the Excessive Heat Warning of 2018”! High pressure moving off to the NW. We’ll “cool” off some today with a high of “only” 106. As we move into tomorrow and the weekend the moisture returns! Revenge of the Monsoon with scattered storms, hopefully one or two (or three) near you!

Mostly sunny today 106.

Partly cloudy tonight near 80.

Scattered storms tomorrow and tomorrow night 102ish. Scattered storms Saturday 99. 20% Sunday and 30% Sunday night upper 90s. 20%/30% Monday near 100. 20%/30% Tuesday 99. 20% Wednesday 101. Enjoy!

Forecast for Wednesday, July 25, 2018

Congratulations! You survived the record heat yesterday. 112 was just two degrees from the all-time July record of 114. Yikes! The good news is the dewpoint fell into the low 40s yesterday so 112 felt like 112 with a relative humidity of just 9%. One more day of excessive heat with the EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING expiring at 8:00 tonight. 109 this afternoon would tie the record if it comes exactly true. Be cool!

Still kinda hot the next couple of days with 105ish tomorrow and 102 Friday. As the high pressure moves to the NW moisture will be increasing and so will the chance for storms. 20% chance for storms as early as tomorrow night. 20% Friday and 40% Friday night!

Scattered storms continue this weekend into next week as temperatures fall to near our average of 98 for this time of year. 20% Saturday and 30% Saturday night 98. 20% Sunday and 30% Sunday night 97. 20% Monday and 40% Monday night near 100. 30% Tuesday 100.

Forecast for Tuesday, July 24, 2018

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING continues until tomorrow night at 8:00, so be warned, the heat will be excessive. A couple storms popping up this morning near Catalina to near Oracle. Nice light show from the deck from about 3:30 until after 4:00. Another isolated storm right now (6:10 a.m.) over the Rincons. We’ll keep isolated storms in the forecast today, but the weather headline is the head. High pressure over SE Arizona basically trying to kill us. Today’s forecast high of 111 will break the daily record of 109 and is just 3 degrees shy of the all-time record high for July. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that! Tonight any stray storms that form will dissolve leaving partly cloudy skies and a not so low low in the low 80s.

109 tomorrow will tie the record high if it comes exactly true.

High pressure moving to the NW will open the door for a return of deeper moisture. That means a better chance for storms starting Thursday evening and increasing this weekend. Thursday’s high 104ish. 20% chance for storms Friday 101. 30% Saturday 98. 20% Sunday upper 90s. 30% Monday upper 90s. Be cool!

Forecast for Monday, July 23, 2018

Pretty nice on the deck this morning with an amazing sunrise! Don’t fall for it. It’s a trap! EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING in effect starting at 10:00 this morning and lasting until Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. Be warned, the heat will be excessive! 109 is today’s record high and we are expected to be right there. Tomorrow’s record of 109 is gonna fall with an expected high of a scorching 112! Wednesday’s record high, also 109, is also expected to fall with an expected high of 110ish. A bit drier than last week with dewpoints in the mid 50s, but still enough moisture for a very slight chance for a storm in the evenings the next few days.

Then our fortunes start to turn as Monsoon 2018 roars back into SE Arizona! A moisture surge from the south overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning will give us a better chance for storms. The flow becomes SEasterly by the weekend with an even better chance for storms, even in the overnight hours. Hang in there! This heat too shall pass.

Sunny today 109. 112 tomorrow. 110 Wednesday. 10% Thursday 104. 20% Friday 99. 30% Saturday 98. 40% Sunday upper 90s.

Forecast for Saturday, July 21, 2018

So nice out on the deck this morning! A cool breeze after the overnight rain. It looks like the NW side was the big winner once again. Catalina State Park picked up 1.65″ inches of rain! Oro Valley anywhere from a quarter inch to three-quarters. The east side got in on the action too with up to a half inch of rain. The airport picked up just .02″ which isn’t zero at least. Yesterday afternoon got crazy in Corona de Tucson with a severe storm that dumped 1″ hail and a bunch of rain. Thanx to Tina Wilson for sharing dramatic video on the FB page!

Just a slight chance for rain this afternoon and evening as we look to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for some big time heat. The National Weather Service has issued an EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING for Monday and Tuesday, so be warned, the heat will be excessive! It will probably be expanded into Wednesday, so there’s that. High pressure will move away as next week wears on and we’ll see the return of Monsoon 2018. Until then, gird your loins!

Becoming mostly sunny today with just a 10% chance for showers or a storm and a high in the upper 90s.

A 10% chance tonight with partly cloudy skies and a low in the upper 70s.

Mostly sunny tomorrow 102ish. Sunny Monday 108. 110 Tuesday! 108 Wednesday. 10% chance Thursday 102. 20% Friday 99.

Forecast for Thursday, July 18, 2018

It’s Friday Eve. Makes the weekend seem closer!

Heating up as we go too. Interesting day and hopefully not too frustrating. Tons of moisture in place with a dewpoint of 70 this morning. As we heat up to the upper 90s this afternoon it will likely feel more like the low 100s thanx to that humidity. So. Will we get sweet relief from scattered storms? Maybe. Drier air above our heads will inhibit storm development some. Storms forming on the mountains no problem, but if storm anvil’s precede the storms themselves we may cut off needed lift to keep storms going. Lots of energy in the atmosphere though, so if we do manage storms, some may be on the strong to severe side! So many possibilities on how this may play out. We’ll go with a slight chance for storms this afternoon and scattered storms this evening with a muggy day in between. Today’s high near 98 feeling like 102.

Breezy tonight with a 30% chance for storms and a low in the upper 70s. ESE winds gusting to around 25 mph.

Isolated storms tomorrow with scattered activity tomorrow evening. High near 100. 10% chance for storms Saturday near 100ish. Mostly sunny Sunday 102. 108 Monday and Tuesday! Yikes! 10% chance Wednesday only 104.

Forecast for Wednesday, July 18, 2018

Monsoon 2018 is off to a terrific start for most of us, although there are some exceptions. A downturn is in our forecast, but not a complete shutdown. Isolated storms possible today and this evening with most of the activity in the mountains, but perhaps one near you too. Today’s high in the upper 90s with a low tomorrow morning in the upper 70s. Still very pleasant on the deck for morning coffee!

Just a 10% chance for afternoon storms tomorrow but that goes up to 30% by evening. High near 99. (99, I’ve been waiting so long. 99, where did we go wrong? Oh 99…. I love you.)

10% chance Friday near 100ish. 10% Saturday 101. Sunny Sunday 103. 106 Monday! 10% Tuesday 106. Moisture coming back mid next week. Stay tuned!

Forecast for Tuesday, July 17, 2018

Showers and storms yesterday evening with Oro Valley once again being the big winner. Storms were moving fast enough that even the heavy rain in the NW part of town was relatively brief. The airport picked up a tenth of an inch, so the Monsoon totals continue to increase almost daily. However. We are fixin’ to apply the breaks. Drier air moving in from the east will limit our storm chances today, although we will end up on the edge of the dry air, so maybe we’ll get storms after all. (how’s that for hedging my bets?) It will be close with the better chances to our west. Today’s high in the upper 90s. A better chance for storms tonight with SW breezes 10-20 mph and gusty and a low in the mid 70s.

Drier tomorrow with just a 10% chance for rain and a high in the mid 90s. 10% chance Thursday with a high in the upper 90s. 10% Friday near 101ish. 20% Saturday 101. Zero% Sunday and Monday with highs near 103 and 105 respectively. Enjoy.
