Forecast for Tuesday, September 18, 2018

104 yesterday was just 1 from the record of 105. Missed it by that much. Yikes! One more 100 degree day today before a dramatic reversal of fortunes. Moisture already on the increase with high pressure to our east and a trough to our west. That has Arizona smack dab in the middle of a southerly flow. Deep moisture headed our way with a chance for storms today mainly to our south and east possible moving into the Metro this evening. Today’s high near 100ish and tonight’s low in the mid 70s.

Tomorrow looks like prime time for showers and storms with heavy rain possible. Near record levels of moisture in here along with an inverted trough moving northward from Baja California. The result should be widespread heavy rainfall across the area with some areas getting two inches of rain or more! The National Weather Service is likely going to issue a Flash Flood Watch, so we’ll probably test the Flash Flood Watch jinx! Hopefully everything will come to pass as forecast. With the clouds and rain around, tomorrow’s high only in the mid 80s!

Moisture hangs around Thursday with a 40% chance for scattered storms and a high in the upper 80s. Some drying Friday, but still a 30% chance for storms and a high in the low 90s. 10% Chance Saturday mid 90s. Sunny Sunday and Monday upper 90s. Viva Monsoon 2018!

Forecast for Monday, September 17, 2018

We did manage a shower or two near the mountains yesterday as advertised, but most of us stayed dry. The early Fall Summer swelter continues today and tomorrow before Monsoon 2018 comes rushing back into our arms. 103 this afternoon with perhaps a mountain storm or two. Moisture on the increase as our high shifts to the east. Mostly sunny 101 tomorrow afternoon with a chance for storms by evening.

Moisture surge in full force Wednesday enhanced by tropical moisture from activity off the Mexican coast. Soupy air and instability should lead to a good chance for showers and storms near you! 50% Wednesday with a high near 90ish. 40% Wednesday night with a low in the upper 60s!

Storm chances continue into Thursday with a 40% chance for storms and a high in the upper 80s! 30% Friday near 90. 20% Saturday low 90s. Mostly sunny Sunday mid 90s. Stay tuned!

Forecast for Sunday, September 16, 2018

Hope springs eternal! Looks like Monsoon 2018 isn’t quite done with us yet. A surprise light rain shower on the deck last night, well, surprised me. Moisture has increased over the area today thanx to thunderstorm activity in Mexico pushing moisture northward. Just enough hanging around for a slight chance of a storm this afternoon with the best chance near the mountains. Only 10% but you’re saying there’s a chance! A little “cooler” today with a high near 100ish.

Sunny tomorrow with a high near 102.

Then. High pressure moves to our east allowing a southerly flow to bring back the deep, rich, scattered thunderstorm giving moisture. Tropical activity off the coast of Mexico will likely add an extra moisture push! Slight storm chances Tuesday and Tuesday night with a high near 100. Prime time for storms is Wednesday/Wednesday night with a 40% chance and a high in the low 90s! 30% chance Thursday near 90. 20% Friday near 90. 20% Saturday low 90s. Viva Monsoon 2018!

Forecast for Saturday, September 15, 2018

This persistent high pressure is persistent on persisting causing a lot of perspiring. It’s pitching in the triple digits bringing the high heat. (I know. I mixed my metaphors there) 105 yesterday! Just a couple of degrees from the record. Today we “cool” off to 103 if the forecast comes exactly true. Very close to today’s record of 105 set in 1928. I say we skip it. Perhaps some relief pitching with a “cooling” trend continuing into next week. “Only” 100ish tomorrow and Monday. 99 Tuesday. Moisture set to return as early as Tuesday night! Monsoon 2018’s Swan Song? Hopefully not, but there is a 10% chance for a storm near you Tuesday night. 30% Wednesday and Thursday low 90s!  20% Friday low 90s. Hang in there!

Forecast for Friday, September 14, 2018

It’s Friiidaaay!!!

Got any other great news Captain Obvious? Well, since you asked…

It will be cooling off a bit this weekend and a bit more next week. Moisture returns for a chance of storms Wednesday, but will Monsoon 2018 stay after that? We don’t know. Nobody knows. She’s gonna do what she’s gonna do. Hopefully she’ll stay past Thursday, but we have to start getting used to the idea that our time together is almost done. Parting is such sweet sorrow especially when our pal High Pressure takes her place. 104 today, 102 tomorrow. 100ish Sunday. 99 (I’ve been waiting so long) Monday. 100 Tuesday. 20% Wednesday upper 90s. 10% Thursday mid 90s. Stay Tuned!

The weather in Arizona

with lows in the 70s
pretty hard to beat

What’s a Tucsonan to do
when September is like May
drink lots of water
and like Mom said, go outside and play!

Thanx for putting up with my cheesy rhyme. Monsoon 2018 hasn’t ghosted us completely yet. She may return to us next week! A 20% chance for storms on Wednesday! Until then our streak of 100+ degree days continues. 102 today. 104 tomorrow! (the record is 107 so…) 103 Saturday. 100ish Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. 20% Wednesday 98.

Forecast for Wednesday, September 12, 2018

Outstanding on the deck again this morning! Just looking for the silver lining in a forecast that doesn’t include clouds. High pressure in control and our our hotness can’t be contained this September. Lows pleasant enough in the low to mid 70s. High near 102 today. 101 tomorrow. 103 Friday and Saturday! 100ish Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully the pool is still warm enough to enjoy. Enjoy!

Forecast for Tuesday, September 11, 2018

Welp. Summer lingers as the middle of September approacheth. Not the fun scattered showers Monsoon 2018 form of Summer. No, it’s the it’s a dry heat iteration. It’s not June hot, but compared to our average of 96 for this time of year it’s kinda hot. Our slight chance of rain for tomorrow has evaporated. High pressure still hanging around confining storm chances to the mountains of SE Cochise County and near the New Mexico border (which is not here). A few puffy clouds in the afternoon and evening otherwise clear skies and on the hot side through the weekend. 102 this afternoon. 101 tomorrow and Thursday. 102ish Friday and Saturday. 100 Sunday. 99 Monday. Consolation prizes include “at least it’s a dry heat” and really nice for morning coffee on the patio/deck with lows in the low to mid 70s. Enjoy!

Forecast for Monday, September 10, 2018

Triple digit heat in September?! It happens, but it doesn’t mean we have to like it. It is a dry heat, so there’s that. The dewpoint is 60 degrees this morning but that should drop a bit this afternoon. 96 is our average high for this time of year and we’ll be 4-6 degrees higher through the week. 101 yesterday and that is what we are going for this afternoon. 102 tomorrow. Slight chance for a storm or two Wednesday, but just a 10% chance. High near 100ish. 99 Thursday. 101 Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Lows mostly in the mid 70s. Hang in there!

Forecast for Sunday, September 9, 2018

When is a zero percent chance for rain not a zero percent chance for rain? When it’s yesterday! A few sprinkles for a few minutes on my perch here in southern Oro Valley yesterday afternoon! To be fair, a zero percent chance for rain means a zero percent chance for “measurable” rain. So. Since I only got a trace I didn’t get “measurable” rain. Technically we are good! Still. It was a bit of a pleasant surprise.

No surprises in store today and tomorrow. (Sure Mike) High pressure still to our west and nosing into Arizona should keep shower and storm chances to our south near the Mexican Border and to our east near the New Mexican Border. That leaves us with a few puffy afternoon clouds with highs near 101 today, tomorrow and Tuesday. Coffee on the deck lows pleasant enough in the mid 70s.

Our high heads to the southern Rockies by Wednesday giving us a more southerly flow. That should increase our moisture and (in theory) increase our chances for storms Wednesday. One model says, yeah, looking good. Another says, not so much. For now the National Weather Service is going with a 10% chance Wednesday and Wednesday night with a high near 100ish. Stay tuned!

Drying out again late next week in to the weekend. Sunny Thursday 99. 101 Friday and Saturday.
