Forecast for Sunday, December 30, 2018

Looks like 28 for our official low this morning!

With all this weather excitement I find myself springing out of bed and racing to my comput… wait. Scratch that. Racing to my kitchen to make coffee and THEN to my computer to see what the weather updates are saying. The New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day storm is on track. BUT (there’s always a but) there are differences between the computer models. Enough to leave a bit of uncertainty (which is why we love weather!). I’ll just steal from the National Weather Service Forecast Discussion from this morning at 4:25 (your taxpayer money at work) to help sort “things” out. Basically they are splitting the difference between two models. One that is trending a bit stronger and wetter. The other not as much of both. These snowfall amounts and levels are a ballpark compromise and you can imagine how a small difference either way can make a big difference in the actual weather we get to experience. My hat (cap) is off to them. They really do a great job!

Prime time will be New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day. Snow levels and amounts tentatively look like this: 3,000 – 4,000 feet: dusting to an inch. 4,000 – 5,000 feet: 1 to 3 inches. 5,000 – 7,000 feet: 3 to 5 inches. Above 7,000 feet: 7 to 14 inches. Expect the National Weather Service to issue winter headlines by this afternoon as more data comes available later today.

After the storm 2019 will be off to a cold start! Lows back in the 20s Wednesday morning and near 30ish Thursday morning. There will be a warming trend with highs actually right around average by Friday and Saturday! Beyond the 7 day forecast looks interesting with another storm or two perhaps in our early January future. They look much warmer but it’s a ways out. Stay tuned!

Sunny today with a high in the mid 50s. Clear tonight freezing. 10% chance tomorrow mid 50s. 60% chance New Year’s Eve near freezing. 30% New Year’s Day mid 40s. Sunny Wednesday near 50ish. Upper 50s Thursday. Mid 60s Friday and Saturday. Enjoy!

Forecast for Saturday, December 29, 2018

The HARD FREEZE WARNING that is set to expire at 9:00 this morning is coming true with a low so far at the airport of 29 degrees. My plants are inside from deck watching TV with me this morning. (just kidding. I don’t have the TV on…) It’ll be another chilly day (mmm chili) with a FREEZE WARNING still in place for tonight from midnight until 9:00 a.m. Sunday. Be warned. It’s gonna be freezing! All eyes are on our next storm and the computer models are starting to agree. Good chance for rain and mountain snow New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Morning! The big question is how low will the snow level go? The National Weather Service is likely to issue Winter highlights, as they call them. That just means we are likely to see a Winter Storm Watch above say 5,000 feet and maybe a Winter Weather Advisory above maybe 3,500 feet. You’ll know when it’s official because I’ll put those in ALL CAPS. Anyway, we could see snow showers in the Metro. Not expecting major accumulations in town or anything, but it could actually snow! Stay tuned and stuff!

Sunny today with a high near 50ish. Mostly clear skies tonight with a low near 30. Sunny low 50s tomorrow. Mostly sunny Monday mid 50s. 40% chance for showers New Year’s Eve mid 30s. 20% chance New Year’s Day upper 40s. Sunny Wednesday low 50s. Low 60s Thursday. Upper 60s Friday. Enjoy!

Forecast for Friday, December 28, 2018

It just gets interestinger and interestinger! Last night’s storm was amazing. Rain started about 4:00 yesterday afternoon and didn’t let up until about 9:00! Then off and on showers overnight with sticking snow repoerted in Corona de Tucson (thank you Tina!) and also from Vail east as snow levels did indeed crash down to 3,500 feet. The airport picking up a third of an inch (.34″) of rain before midnight. Decreasing clouds today as our storm exits stage east. It’ll be cold with the FREEZE WARNING still a go from midnight tonight until 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning and then again midnight until 9:00 a.m. Sunday. However. Saturday night/Sunday morning is looking interestinger. Our storm still lingering to our east could trigger some snow showers perhaps as far west as Tucson? No showers yet included in the Metro’s official forecast but a slight chance has been added for Summerhaven. Stay tuned there. THEN another storm approacheth for New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day that originally looked like it was going to miss us to the east may actually give us a chance for rain/snow? The official forecast keeps us dry right now. Again. Stay tuned there as we have a lot to sort out yet in 2018!

Decreasing clouds today but still a chance for a lingering rain or snow shower before 8 a.m. and a high this afternoon near 50ish. Mostly clear tonight with a low in the upper 20s. Sunny tomorrow near 50ish. Upper 20s Sunday morning. Sunny Sunday low 50s. Mostly sunny Monday mid 50s. Sunny New Year’s Day low 50s. Mid 50s Wednesday. Mid 60s Thursday.

Forecast for Thursday, December 27, 2018

We are going from chilly (mmm chili) to downright COLD. Our next Winter storm approacheth and it promises to bring rain and mountain snow tonight. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY above 5,000 feet has been issued starting at 8:00 tonight until 8:00 tomorrow morning. The official forecast for Sumerhaven is calling for 5 to 9 inches of snow possible tonight! Meanwhile back in the Metro the question is will we snow in the morning? The answer is… I really don’t know. It’s going to be close! Snow levels falling to near 3,000 feet by daybreak. So. Will there still be showers around at daybreak or will the storm be done by then. If there are showers around we might have some snow falling tomorrow morning in and around town. I’ll be up early looking just in case!!!

OK. So then the storm is out of here tomorrow with COLD air in its wake. FREEZE WATCH is in effect for the Metro Saturday morning midnight to 9:00 a.m. and Sunday morning Midnight to 9:00 a.m. Pets, People, Pipes, Plants. Oh, and, consider letting the teenagers sleep in the house. Staying on the cool side through New Years Day and then warming slight by mid next week. Be cool! But stay warm.

Increasing clouds today with a high in the upper 50s. Showers likely tonight after midnight with a low in the mid 30s. Sunny tomorrow low 50s. Mostly clear Saturday morning upper 20s. Sunny Saturday low 50s. Clear skies Sunday morning upper 20s. Sunny Sunday low 50s. Mostly clear Monday morning near freezing. Sunny Monday upper 50s. Near 30ish New Years morning mid 50s by afternoon. Near 30ish Wednesday morning low 60s by afternoon.

Forecast for Wednesday, December 26, 2018

The road to Summerhaven is closed this morning but looking at the Simply Bits cameras it looks like they only got maybe 4″-6″ inches of snow? .20 inches of rain at the airport with a few lingering showers possible still this morning. We’ll take it! Moving forward the biggest weather headline is the COLD. Another system in here by tomorrow night with snow levels down to 3,500 feet perhaps. Snow in Saddlebrook? Catalina? Maybe. For sure it will be cold behind the storm. Saturday and Sunday mornings in the upper 20s, so make sure your outside plants put on their Winter coats. It’ll stay on the cool side the rest of the year. The bad news is the computer models have cancelled the storm for New Year’s Day. Stay tuned for any changes, because, you know. It’s the weather!

Becoming mostly sunny this afternoon after a chance for lingering showers this morning and a high in the upper 50s. Partly cloudy tonight mid 30s. Mostly sunny tomorrow upper 50s. 50% tomorrow night mid 30s. 10% Friday low 50s. Sunny Saturday low 50s. Mostly sunny Sunday low 50s. Upper 50s Monday and New Years Day.

Forecast for Tuesday, December 25, 2018

Merry Christmas! I hope all of your dreams are coming true 🙂

I’m liking this forecast. LOTS of snow in them there hills expected. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect from 5pm today until 5pm tomorrow. The official forecast for Summerhaven states: total daytime (today) accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. New snow accumulation (tonight) 6 to 10 inches possible. Shut the front the door!!! Amazing. Maybe I’ll head that way this afternoon. For us valley dwellers the wind has already started to pick up as our storm approacheth. Showers should be developing this afternoon with rain and thunderstorms a good bet for tonight. Some spots could get a half inch of rain. Most will top out near a third of an inch. And. Some folks might not get much at all. (sorry about that chief) Lingering showers tomorrow and a break on Thursday. Then another storm in here for Thursday night/Friday. Will it snow down to the valley floor? Maybe. It WILL be cold. Upper 20s expected Saturday and Sunday mornings. You might want to let the teenagers actually sleep inside this weekend. Stay tuned!

Partly sunny today with a 20% chance for afternoon showers and a high in the mid 60s. SW winds gusting to near 30 mph. Showers and possibly a thunderstorm tonight with a low near 40ish. Scattered showers tomorrow mid 50s. Mostly sunny Thursday upper 50s. 30% Thursday night mid 30s. 20% Friday low 50s. Mostly sunny Saturday mid 50s. Sunny Sunday upper 50s. Mostly sunny Monday upper 50s. Enjoy!

Forecast for Monday, December 24, 2018

’twas the day before Christmas and all through the house. Not a creature was stirring including my ex spouse! (I mean, she moved and stuff so… ) The weather was warm with plenty of Sun. But changes were coming before Christmas was done! Increasing clouds and increasing wind. Rain and mountain snow in the afternoon will begin. Five to seven inches in Summerhaven maybe. Up to half inch of rain in the Metro baby! Showers and storms will leave us on Wednesday. But more cold weather still headed our way. Will it snow in Tucson? We still don’t know. Winter has arrived! Santa and at least mountain snow. Merry Christmas!

Sunny today mid 70s. Mostly clear tonight mid 40s. 30% chance for showers tomorrow afternoon mid 60s. 80% tomorrow night with snow levels dropping to near 5,000 feet. Summerhaven expecting 5-7 inches of snow. Showers and possibly a storm in the metro mid 40s. 30% Wednesday mid 50s. Mostly sunny upper 50s Thursday. 20% Friday low 50s. 10% Friday night 32ish. 10% Saturday mid 50s. Mostly sunny Sunday upper 50s.

Forecast for Sunday, December 23, 2018

You better not pout. You better not cry. You better not whine. I’m telling you why. Rain and snow is coming to town! You read (sang) that right. Rain AND snow is coming. To town! It’s what I was alluding to during yesterday’s FB Live. These storms this week will be cold and colder. So. Maybe some snow down to the valley floor before the week is over! Not expecting a lot to stick or anything like that, but the word snow is in the official forecast. I’m pretty pumped about it.

But. First things first. Our beautiful four day (for most) weekend continues with lots of sunshine and warm temperatures. Some high cloudiness for hopefully more sunrise and sunset enhancement. Then our Christmas storm blows in.

It’ll be breezy/windy ahead of the cold front and a chance for a few showers Christmas afternoon. The front blows through Christmas evening and that’s when the fun really begins. Scattered showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Could see .2 – .4″ of rain in valley locations. Snow begins above 7,000 feet Christmas afternoon and the snow level drops to near 5,000 feet Wednesday morning. The official forecast for Summerhaven is for less than half an inch of snow Christmas afternoon and 2-4″ Tuesday night. Could see up to 7″ at Ski Valley.

A break in the action Thursday but cool. Next chance of rain in here by Thursday night into Saturday with a chance for rain AND snow showers Friday night and Saturday morning. Stay tuned!

Mostly sunny today mid 70s. Low 70s tomorrow. Breezy Christmas with a 30% chance for showers. SE wind 10-20 mph and gusty becoming WSW in the afternoon and a high in the upper 60s. 60% chance for showers and storms Tuesday night upper 30s. 20% Wednesday mid 50s. Mostly sunny Thursday upper 50s. 20% Thursday night and Friday mid 50s. 20% chance for rain and snow showers Friday night near freezing. Slight chance for rain and snow showers Saturday morning low 50s. Enjoy!

Forecast for Saturday, December 22, 2108

More sunshine today as the considerable high cloudiness will be much less considerable. Clearing is happening from the west even as I type. Sun shining through this weekend even as our Christmas storm approacheth. Our Christmas cold front won’t blow through until evening but a chance for showers ahead of it during the afternoon feast. Snow in the mountains starting at around 7,000 feet. That crashes below 5,000 feet Christmas night and Wednesday morning as the chance for showers increases. Still, valley locations only expecting a quarter inch or less from the storm. “Things” stay unsettled Wednesday and Thursday. Our next storm moves in Thursday night into Friday. Not looking like a lot of moisture with this storm either, but it does look colder. Stay tuned!

Mostly sunny today with a high in the mid 70s. low 70s tomorrow. Near 70ish Monday. 30% chance for showers Christmas afternoon mid 60s. 60% Tuesday night upper 30s. 20% Wednesday mid 50s. Mostly sunny Thursday mid 50s. 20% Thursday night and Friday low 50s.

Forecast for Friday, December 21, 2018

It’s Friiidaaay!!!

It’s also the Winter Solstice that hits at 3:23 this afternoon. The Sun will be directly over the Tropic of Capricorn. For just a moment you might feel dizzy. Dogs will probably start barking. If you are doing the dishes you might break one. Actually I made all of that up, but it will be the farthest south the Sun will travel and it will now start slowly making the long journey back to the Northern Hemisphere.

Now that that’s out of the way, where were we? Oh yeah. Warm again today! It would be warmer but an increase in high clouds will help keep us from the record of 80 set in 1917. Possible sunrise and sunset enhancement through the weekend as high clouds from time to time will be hangin’ around. The big changes come Christmas Day. A pretty cold cold front will be blowing through along with a storm system. We are still a few days away (sorry kids) so the timing and strength is still “up in the air” (see what I did there?), but it’s looking like at least a chance for rain by Christmas afternoon with snow in the mountains. Snow level could drop close to 4,000 feet with this one by Wednesday morning! Possibly (probably) another storm behind that one keeping us in valley rain and mountain snow chances through much of the week. Stay tuned!

Mostly sunny today near 77. Mostly cloudy tonight mid 40s. Sunny tomorrow mid 70s. Low 70s Sunday. Near 70ish Monday. 10% chance for showers Christmas Day mid 60s. 50% Tuesday night mid 30s. 20% Wednesday mid 50s. 10% Thursday upper 50s. Enjoy!
